Save Electricity In Your Kitchen
Follow these energy saving tips to save electricity and lower your electricity bill.Economical Washing and Drying
Your washing machine and tumble dryer are a couple of the appliances in your home that use the most energy. You may not be in a position to cut down how frequently you use them , but you can make some little changes to how you use them that will help you save energy and money.
When using the washing machine, between 85-90% of energy is used just to warm up the water. Therefore , dropping the water temperature of your wash could noticeably reduce your power usage. Over 12 months, by using a warm wash rather than a hot wash, you might cut consumption nearly in half.
The spin on the machine may mean that more energy is employed but by spinning your clothes you are removing more excess water, thus reducing your drying time in a tumble dryer.
Fix a Dripping Tap
A dripping tap can be not only upsetting but if it is a hot tap it can cost you in both water costs and water heating costs.
If left to drip, over time a hot tap can waste enough water to fill half a bath. So don't pour water and your heating costs down the drain, ensure you fix it.
Efficient Cooking
There are some simple ways to save energy when cooking which can also speed up the quantity of time you spend over a hot stove. Always use the proper size pan, and when heating water only use the amount you want so that the electricity isn't burning pointlessly to heat the excess. If only employing a tiny pan, then use a smaller burner.
When making a cup of tea, only boil the quantity of water you need.
refrigerator and freezer
The placement of your fridge can make a difference in how energy efficient it is. It is best to keep it against an external wall so the heat it generates can escape simply, and always make sure that there is a few inches space all round the refrigerator so that air can circulate.
make sure you defrost your fridge and refrigerator on a regular basis or whenever obligatory. An iced up fridge will make the freezer work harder, so wasting more energy than required. Only set your fridge to as cold as you need it and avoid keeping the door open for long periods as the more cold air that escapes, the harder the refrigerator has to work.
You shouldn't put warm or hot food into the fridge as this will make the fridge work extra hard to try and keep it cold ; always permit food to cool down first.
Another good tip is to defrost frozen food in the fridge as this assists in keeping it cool as it thaws.
The first step is to make sure you followed all the directions. Then you let the company know about the defect – and let them know you feel you should be compensated. They should compensate you – probably will replace your appliance and give you a coupon or something.
But should you sue? No, probably not. Unless the whole line of appliances is defective (and they know yet refuse to do anything) you probably have no grounds for a lawsuit.
Who are the UK electrical appliance industry leaders?
Hello
I’m planning my brand new spanking kitchen and we want to go for the best of the best in appliances.
We want the latest technologies built to last and don’t mind paying for them.
We need an oven, a fridge, a hob, a dishwasher, etc etc
Which brands should we be looking at?
Thanks!
Use the “Which?” reports to base your choices on.
Ovens with doors which slide underneath for easy access are fab.
same with Drawer dishwashers and fridges.
Have you ever had a meaninful and intimate relationship with a large electrical kitchen appliance?
Should I sue a company after I received a mild electrical shock from a kitchen appliance?
I am 6 months pregnant. I was unijured, but really scared for my baby. This company makes 1,000′s of household products, some with serious dangerous issues. Should I make sure they are being held liable for their products with a lawsuit or make my complaint to them and hope they remedy the dangerous product?
#1 it was a gift
#2 there are no recalls on this item, I checked
#3 it doesn’t take much to stop the heart of a fetus
#4 I don’t need compensation, I don’t want others to get hurt
#5 this company has been found responsible for multiple fires caused by their products, I just want to make sure these companies are doing all they can to keep us safe.
#6 Their products are in 1 in every 2 households. Do you own one? Your child could be snuggled up with one right now.
#7 there is no warning on the product or in the manual that states a risk of shock from touching it
Good selection of low price appliances.

Electrical work –new kitchen ring circuit in the UK.?
**** FIRSTLY I LIVE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM******
Question for UK electricians please!!
I am asking this question as i would like the correct information
(i dont intend doing the work myself but would get a qualified person in under part P regulations for kitchen wiring)
Can a new ring circuit dedicated to the kitchen only have the wire run in properly constructed upvc “skirting board”
with surface mounted sockets running from this.
I ask this question because i feel less mess/disruption would be caused wiring up with the above method.
As we have quite a few kitchen appliances and they hide most of the skirting board anyway and surface mounted sockets would not show up also could this method of wiring be used in a safe and proper manor.
Yes – you can run the cables in many types of containment, why not speak to a good electrician who may well be able to fully conceal other sections and make the sockets flush. (I dislike surface wiring and accessories, and go to great lengths to conceal these)
